Questions & Answers

                                              On Booking tickets

1. Are there any pillars in the venues that may restrict my view?

There are no pillars in any of the venues that will restrict your view. You will be able to see the stage from any seat in the venue. We would recommend, however, that the front rows of the balconies may not be the best view for small children.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. What type of concessions does The Helix have available?

Many of our shows have concessions available. They are subject to availability and must be requested at time of booking. Concessions not requested at the time of booking cannot be allocated later. Proof of eligibility will be required when collecting tickets.

The types of concessions that may be available are the following: children (15 years and under only), students (Full-time students with current valid identification), senior citizens (65 years and over only with identification), registered disabled/unwaged (available with appropriate ID).

Please note that not all shows have concessions available, as they are at the discretion of the promoter of the event.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Do I need a ticket for babies and young children?

For health and safety reasons, all babies and young children require a ticket to enjoy a show in the venue.

Occasionally, The Helix will present a show which is suitable for children from 0-4 years of age. The advised age guideline will reflect this. In these circumstances only, children under 12 months will be admitted into the venue. Their ticket will be facilitated by the Box Office and will be free of charge provided the babies can be seated throughout the performance on the accompanying adult’s lap.

All children over 1 year of age must have a paid ticket. Many shows avail of special discounts for children or families. If a discount does not apply for the show you are purchasing, a full price ticket will apply.

Please read our age appropriateness policies and family facilities here.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Why is there a €1 booking fee?

The booking fee is used to cover administration costs that the venue incurs in the process of selling a ticket, such as Internet charges, credit card processing fees, bank charges and agent/administration fees.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. What payment methods do you accept?

Tickets can be purchased by cash, cheque and credit or debit card. If you are paying by cheque, please make crossed cheques payable to The Helix.

The credit and debit cards accepted for payments are Visa, MasterCard and Laser over the telephone and in person.

We accept Visa and Mastercard online.

Tickets bought in person and over the phone can also be paid with

The Helix Gift Vouchers. Read more about the vouchers here.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. Does the Box Office provide cash back?

We regret that our Box Office does not provide cash back services. However, you will be able to avail of cash back services from our Café and Bar, up to a maximum of €50. Please note that this may not always be possible during show intervals.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7. Where is the nearest bank machine?

There are a few cash machines which can be found in DCU campus, though some of them are only open to public during office hours.

An AIB bank is located in the building behind the venue, where money can be extracted during bank hours (Weekdays: 10.00-12.30 and 13.30-16.00). The Spar in Campus has an ATM, which is open until 7 o’clock most evenings and there is also an ATM in “The Hub”, the students building.

The cash machine which is opened 24 hours a day, every day of the week is located at the rear of The Henry Grattan Building, in front of the restaurant. To see a map of the campus, click here.

8. Can I get a refund or exchange tickets for a different show?

Once purchased, tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded unless a performance has been cancelled. Please note that events are subject to change. Click here for more details on Conditions of Sale.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9. Why are my contact details asked when purchasing a ticket and what do you do with that information?

You will be asked if you want to be included in our mailing list. If you agree, we will send you The Helix season brochure, twice yearly, for free to the address that you have given us.

                                                       On Online Booking

10. How do I book tickets online?

Tickets can be booked online 24 hours a day from www.thehelix.ie.

To buy a ticket, you will need to select a particular show and a price level, if there is more than one. After that, you will be required to enter the amount of tickets you want to purchase (up to a maximum of 6 tickets per transaction).

The system will reserve the best seats available at the time for you. You will have 14 minutes to complete the purchase before the tickets are released. To do so, enter your credit card details (payment by Visa or MasterCard only) and select the "Buy tickets" button on the bottom right hand corner.

You will then receive an email confirming your booking. Please print this document and bring it to The Helix when collecting your tickets at Box Office on the day of the show.

Please note that, for security reasons, we do not store your credit card details in our system.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

11. How are my seats allocated online?

Our online booking system will make a selection for you of the best available seats at the price you have chosen. If you wish to view the location of your seats:

Click here to see images and the seating plan for The Mahony Hall.
Click here to see images and the seating plan for The Theatre.
Click here to see images of The Space.

Our online booking system is directly linked to the Box Office, to ensure that you are offered the best available tickets at the time of your request. Because of the way the online system holds the tickets for web bookers, it is not possible to offer more than one selection of seats.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

12. How will I know when my booking has gone through?

Once you are satisfied with your seat allocation, and you have entered your credit card details on the final booking page, select the ‘Buy Tickets’ button on the bottom right-hand corner. You will then receive an e-mail confirming your booking.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

13. Why can’t I book more than 6 tickets online?

The maximum online booking number is 6 tickets. This limit has been set to protect our patrons from ticket touts. If you are booking for a large group, please note that we regularly have group offers.
